How to Clean Cellular Shades

Here are a few ways you can clean your cellular shades and enjoy a fresher-smelling home:

Dusting

Dust your Hunter Douglas Duette® Cellular Shades or Sonnette® Roller Shades, a combination of a roller and cellular shade, every week or two. You can do this with a feather duster so they continue to look new. While many Hunter Douglas fabrics repel dust and dirt, continuing to care for them can make them last longer.

If it's been a while since you've dusted your shades, or you don't have a feather duster, you can use the vacuum cleaner's soft brush attachment to remove the dust carefully.

Spot Cleaning

Messes and spills are unavoidable sometimes, especially if you have a bustling household with pets or kids. If your cellular shades get a stain, you can spot-clean them. To do this, take a sponge or a soft cloth and use warm water in a mild detergent to gently blot the spots. These gentle actions minimize the chances of harming the fabric. Let it dry, and repeat if needed.

If you have a spot or stain that won't come out, it’s best to avoid steam cleaning it. Instead, contact our helpful team at Blind King or refer to your Hunter Douglas Care and Cleaning Guide for further instruction.

Removing Debris

A great perk about cellular shades is that they use fabric panels shaped into honeycomb-like cells that fill with air, making them such energy-efficient window treatments. However, air isn't the only element that can get trapped in these fabric panels. Bugs and spiders can make their way in from outside, getting trapped and requiring you to remove them. You'll also find dust and debris.

Fortunately, there's an easy way to clean them. Simply take a can of compressed air and direct it through the panels. If you don't have any compressed air, use a hair dryer on the low and cool settings. Avoid pushing a stick through the panels to remove the debris because that could destroy the fabric.
