5 Signs Your Window Treatments Need a Repair
Like most home accessories and appliances, window treatments eventually break down or need a bit of TLC. At Blind King, while we specialize in new Hunter Douglas blinds, shades, and shutters, we’re also a repair center. Our knowledgeable team analyzes your window treatments to determine whether repairing or replacing them is best for you.

If you’re unsure whether your window coverings qualify for a repair, consider these five signs.
1. Noticing Visible Damage
Cracked, warped, bent, or missing blind slats look unfavorable and prevent the coverings from working correctly. Similarly, frayed cords or visibly damaged mechanisms are signs of wear that need attention sooner rather than later.
Additionally, some of these issues can pose safety hazards. For example, if the window treatment becomes loose in its inside or outside mount, someone may pull it down, potentially injuring individuals, especially children and pets.
If you’re experiencing these challenges with your window treatments, it’s most helpful to request a consultation to explain the damage and, if possible, share detailed photos or videos so our team can better understand the problem.
2. Moving Slowly or Sticking
If your shades crawl along or stop abruptly, the internal mechanisms are wearing out and need an expert to replace them. The delayed response and resistance place more stress on the cords and mechanisms, causing them to wear out.
While window covering repair is possible, a replacement may be more cost-effective, especially if it’s been going on for a long time.
3. Raising and Lowering Unevenly
If your blinds get stuck halfway up the window, the slats don’t tilt all the way, or your shades don’t lower to the bottom of the window, it disturbs the effectiveness of your window treatment.
This issue usually means that something has shifted, and the mount is loose or the cords or slats have stretched. If the slats aren’t closing or staying in position, it’s time for a window covering repair.
4. Having Light Gaps
All fabric can develop wrinkles, fray at the edges, or roll up unevenly, and window treatments are no exception. This appearance flaw affects how your shades look and how well they block light and provide privacy, but experts can repair it.
Similarly, if the blinds are broken or the slats aren’t aligned, you have a privacy and light-control issue that our Blind King team might be able to help with.
5. Experiencing Energy Bill Spikes
If your blinds or shades are outdated, damaged, or misaligned, they can’t insulate as effectively, which can cause problems. About 25-30% of heat or cooling escapes through the windows, so if your energy bill is rising, it could mean there’s an issue with your window treatments.
